My D&D Group started up a new campaign. I’ll try to do my best to keep a journal of what happens, since most of the gang (myself included) is a little too unorganized to remember everything on their own. I’ll bug our DM and the rest of the players to help fill in any blanks, and hopefully catch everything.

Our first session was March 19th. Our lovely host Brenda cooked a big meal to celebreate a few life events that have happened in the group. Afterwards we got started with Characters:

  • Brenda our host is playing a Shifter Ranger (Dual Weapon style) appropriatly named Brendar
  • Jesse, who’s so hardcore he writes his char sheets by hand on graph paper, is playing a Shifter Rogue who’s name I dont recall.
  • Shawn is playing a Deva Cleric. Seriously. One of the good kinda that’s peaceful and likes to heal people.
  • Pat, the newest member of our Crew is playing a Dragonborn Paladin.
  • Matt, one of the original crew members, is playing a Deva Invoker.
  • And myself, Im playing a Dwarven Battle Cleric. Dont look at me like a band-aid.

Our adventure started at a bar (as all good adventures do) in the Town of Brindol, where the PC’s at this point generally dont know each other. Based off the arrangemet of the minatures on the battle mat, myself and the other cleric were probably having a intense conversation about who’s god was better, the two shifters were being shifty at the bar, and everyone else kept to themselves.

As the bartender was talking to the shifters, each trying to get as much  information out of the other as possible, the calm was rudely interuptted.

There was a loud CRASH as the door was bashed in. 4 hobgoblins burst thru, one wielding a torch and screams

“FOR SINRUTH!! FOR THE HAND!”

Roll Initiave….

This combat was pretty straight forward. It was delayed by all of us learning new char’s and powers etc.

Jess stole the show with a mind boggling bonus to hit on a thrown dagger that took out a minion, but MVP goes to the newest member of the group, Pat, who said hello by using a Daily Power in the first combat of the campaign. That’s serious buisness. Matt also got quite busy with his controller ways and eleminated a few groups of minions with well placed burst-1 spells. The rest of us played clean up.

There were several waves of hobgoblins, and one of each of the waves wielded a torch, and used it to light certian parts of the bar on fire. This almost killed the bartender as he happen to be in the wrong square as the fire spread. Props to the “nice” cleric, Shawn, for saving his bacon.

After the fires were out, a few guards rush in and mention that things are getting pretty thick in town. We stepped outside and hear screams coming from all over. To our surprise, there is a Ogre with a wagon strapped to him, and behind him, 3 hobgoblins lighting casks of some liquid and handing them to the ogre who, judging by the smoke and fires in thier wake, wields them rather destructively.

This is where we left off. Next session soon!

haloween

I went and hung out with the guys and gals from the Chicago Nerds Social Club, and had a fantastic time. I even got entered into the best overall costume contest! I admit, it was because of the lightsaber.  Everyone digs a good lightsaber. More pictures available on Flickr….

The New Years Eve celebration at the resort was packed and full of food, drinks, and entertainment. There are a few pics posted in the Day 4 post. Today, we had a Mayan Adventure scheduled. It was supposed to include going across ziplines, climbing some big-but-not-too-intimidating rocks, and end with snorkeling! (We were going to skip that)

We woke up at the crack of dawn. Actually, it was well before dawn. We skipped breakfast, and hopped in a cab to take of to the Marina to catch a Ferry to Playa del Carmen. It was an interesting ride to say the least. My wife doesnt handle boats and the open sea well :)

We finally arrived and…. no one from the tour company ever showed up. Huge bummer. We waited 2 hours, then walked around the shopping area a bit, and boarded the 10am Ferry back to Cozumel. Then the rain started. And it rained and rained and rained. Its finally let up some, but the day is pretty much spent.

Turns out the Tour operator decided not to operate today. Too bad the message never got passed on to whoever confirmed our tour date and time. Oh well, we were refunded, including Ferry fee’s and partial taxi fees, and we move on with life.

Adventure! Danger! DIRTY!!! What more can you ask for? Ok, only a little danger. As much as you can expect when you turn me loose on a ATV. I didnt hurt myself or anyone else tho!!  That’s not to say I didnt try. I had a run in with a little tree on the trail, but after that, smooth sailing.

We took a taxi to El Cedral. A small town about 15minutes from the Resort. We were told to meet by the “old church” which is vaguley in the area our ATV tour was supposed to start. Once we were in the right spot, it was a blast from there. I’ve never been so filthy in my life. I loved it.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it..

Strap yourself into a harness, hooked to a speedboat, with a parachute attached to it….

So today’s post comes a bit earlier because I have time to kill since Kawandra doesnt feel well after parasailing. She was a wreck! So scary! It was a good time, she enjoyed it, almost enough to want to go again, but then she changed her mind.

Hola! Que Pasa!

Ok, that’s the extent of my spanish. I have been practicing “have a good day” all day and I can’t get it right.. Oh well.

Today was another lazy day…poolside most of the day, with another walk on the beach and we took some “professional” pictures. Man, this guy has a nice hustle. One macbook, one copy of photoshop, and a nice SLR. Set up a booth on an island, and take toursits money. Oh well, we fell for it. Those pictures will be posted in their own gallery since they are superior to our point-and-shoot pictures.

Adios!

We left for Chicago at 5am.  Yes.  FIVE.  That means up at 4.  4am in the morning generally doesn’t exist in my world, unless I’ve been out drinking and haven’t slept yet…or playing video games and haven’t slept yet.  Either way, there’s usually not any sleep involved.

Sorry, got sidetracked…

Our flight out of O’hare was fine, and the lay over in Dallas was pretty standard as well.

The hotel shuttle from the airport…now THAT was exciting.  Partly due to the shock value when I looked at the spedometer and saw a big 90 and paniced.  Yep, I forgot that we were out of the states and that whole miles per hour thing wasn’t valid any more.  This shuttle driver must have been a NASCAR driver in another life or a stunt man, or a NASCAR driver who did stunts in his off time.

We get to the resort and were immediately impressed.  It’s a BEAUTIFUL resort.  The dissapointment didn’t set in until we got to our room.  Talk about a let down.  Super small room, bad view, and lots of stuff broken.  Kawandra almost fell in the shower (aka busted her sh….) because the support bar came out of the wall.  Whoops.  Determined to make it work, we set out for dinner and a walk along the beach. (COOOOORRRNNNEYYYYY).  While walking we came along another section of the resort that was, well, better.  For curiosity’s sake we asked the front desk about an upgrade and one was available.  The only stipulation was….wait for it…. ADULTS ONLY…NO KIDS.  I’m sure you can imagine our dissapointment.  To upgrade to one of these rooms for our trip cost us an extra 350 USD.  Best money we could have possibly spent.  Room is 2 or 3 times bigger.  It’s just more like what we expected.

Ok, enough rambling.  EDIT: Pics included for your viewing pleasure.
